Practical Components Relocates Headquarters to Larger Facility
Practical Components Inc., a worldwide supplier of dummy components, test boards and training kits headquartered in Los Alamitos, Calif., announces the relocation of its corporate headquarters to accommodate growth fueled by increased customer demand for its component solutions and services, especially in the area of lead-free conversion.
The move was completed June 2, 2006 and marks another milestone for Practical in its nine-year history, as the company responds to customers by strengthening its organization, technology and expanding partnerships worldwide.
The new office, located just one block from its original location in Los Alamitos, Calif., is a larger dedicated building that supports all of Practical's domestic facility and international support requirements. This new facility includes more space for Practical's growing number of employees and a larger warehouse and loading dock area. An integral part of the new facility is an enhanced information technology system, equipped with state-of-the-art receiving, shipping and order-processing facilities, ensuring customers receive the highest level of service in Practical Components products sector.

Practical Components is the exclusive distributor of mechanical samples for Amkor Technology as well as distributing components from most other manufacturers and has representatives worldwide.
Dummy components are exact mechanical equivalents of live components used only when the physical properties of the components are required. These components can cost as much as 80 percent less than live components, making the ideal for testing of solder processes, machine setup and other process evaluations.
Practical dummy components are used in assembly process evaluation, lead-free conversion, calibration, qualification, training and other situations where only the mechanical characteristics not the functioning components are required.

+ New Metric 0402 Chips Put The Word “Micro” Back Into Electronics
Practical Components is now able to supply dummy resistors in metric 0402 size for your process development and planning.
Just when you thought chip components of 0201 (.6mm x.3mm) were small, the next wave of miniaturization is upon us.
The smaller a piece of electronic equipment becomes and the more complex its functions, the more extensive are the integration of its circuits. This integration of capacitors and other components into chips stimulates and supports progress in the miniaturization of equipment. For example 200 to 300 chip capacitors are used in a single mobile phone.
These new components are approximately half the size of 0201's. Standard 0201's are .6mm x .3mm while the new metric 0402's are .4 x .2 mm. 0402 Metric components come standard on paper tape and reels 1,000 components. Reel quantity is based on engineering sample quantities. These SMD components, along with advances in mounting technology continue to push the development of more compact components with increasingly advanced functions.
